Couples Counseling
There are many factors that affect our well-being and our relationships are one of the biggest! If we are in a healthy relationship, we are more resilient. If our relationships are struggling, this can affect our overall health and wellness. We help couples get back on the same team. Sometimes this means the relationship is repaired and you and your partner move forward with a new outlook on your relationship. Sometimes it might mean that the work we do is about how to separate in the best way possible; especially if children are involved.
We see couples with a variety of concerns, including:
Communication
Why is it that so often we talk to our partners in ways we would never talk to a co-worker or a stranger? We help couples talk to each other so both people feel heard, understood, and validated.
Conflict Resolution
Couples don’t always fight fair and people end up feeling more hurt after a conflict. If this continues, a wedge is driven between you and your partner that sometimes feels too big to bridge. We will work together to learn skills that will help you fight in better ways and move past the disagreement faster.
Infidelity & Betrayal
Affairs are defined in different ways but are always devastating to a relationship. There is hope. A very large percentage of couples repair their relationship after infidelity and move forward with renewed trust. We will work through the hurt of the experience and rebuild together.
Sex & Intimacy
Sex and intimacy can be awkward and uncomfortable to talk about, even in the context of your long-term relationship. As a therapist with additional training in the area of sexual concerns, I can help you talk openly about these topics in a comfortable and non-threatening way. (See Sex Therapy)
Blended Families
Blended families have unique challenges as they attempt to bring two different family units together. This can cause children to feel resentful and parents/partners to have additional stress and conflict. Although it is difficult, you can learn to work together and create a new, loving family.
Uncoupling
Sometimes it is clear that one or both people can’t come back from the hurt and resentment. When this is the case, working together in therapy to “uncouple” in healthy ways can be helpful, especially if children are involved. Together, we can get you the support that is right for you.
